What to catch crayfish on

Crayfish lures. Crayfish catching, as well as fishing, has a lot of fans, and not only in the summer, but also on ice. True, there are also restrictions on the timing of fishing for these arthropods, which are objects of industrial and amateur fishing (read here). And that is understandable. After all, crayfish have delicious and dietary meat, and are also considered a special and tasty snack for beer.

Crayfish Lures
Crayfish lures can be very diverse, as these arthropods are omnivores. But the main misconception in this matter can be called a stable legend, that the crayfish serve only rotten fish and the same meat. These underwater animals are hunters and predators. And therefore, if there is such an opportunity, they will attack a small fish, preferring fresh meat to fall. Of course, the crayfish will not refuse from snuffed fish or an animal that fell to the bottom, but if there is a choice, then they will choose fresh prey. This combines crayfish with catfish, which are also attributed simply to a pathological craving for carrion.

Another unexpected feature of crayfish can be called their ability sometimes … to peck, like a medium-sized and cautious fish. Moreover, during such a strange bite they sometimes even fall for the bait. In the summer, I did not have to catch them with a float or bottom fishing rod, but there were such cases on the ice, and, surprisingly, on the Volga, on its main channel and depth, which was about five meters. Actually, we were here catching a rather large shrovetide the day before, and leaving to spend the night at the car, we fed the holes with the expectation of successful fishing the next morning. But at the dawn after the capture of several carpets suddenly some uncertain bites followed, and suddenly a rather large cancer appeared on the hook, which strove to grab fingers with claws. Obviously, bait, in which, in addition to the prepared winter mixture for roach and filler, was also a bloodworm, hungry crayfish came from somewhere and started pecking at mormyshki with brushes of bloodworms. And the roach either left itself, or the crayfish drove it away, but we had to re-search the sites of the large shrouds.

How and what do crayfish catch

This suggests that the bait is not alien to animal bait used for fishing. But, since these arthropods often live under the cliffs where the villages are located, human food waste can also be of interest to these underwater animals. And this: bread, meat and fish. In addition, it turns out that crayfish are also versed in cereals. They may be interested in steamed wheat, corn, and even canned peas. It is not for nothing that arthropods keep close to the places of catching various fish, which also love peas and corn. And just like fish, crayfish at different times of the year give preference to high-calorie or less high-calorie baits, which experienced crayfish fishermen put into crayfish according to the seasons.

It is believed that in the warm season, when there is a lot of food and water has a positive temperature, and there is no need to make long searches for food along the bottom of long trips, it is better to use vegetable baits in the form of peas, bread and corn as lures. Moreover, it turns out that crayfish are as good as fish sorted out as a product and, like sophisticated roach, they will prefer Bonduelle corn. They, like crucians, sometimes like bread with the smell of garlic, but unlike silly crucians, crayfish do not “go” on bread with the flavoring “Garlic”. Arthropods feel the difference between a surrogate fake and a natural product.
