Spring fishing in the spill
Fishing in the spring on spills and hollows. Tackle and fishing equipment.
During the flood period of rivers filled with meltwater, fishing is, as if in standby mode. It all depends on when the rivers enter the banks, or at least the water level becomes just below the upper edge of the banks. And this period can be called the off-season time, the transition period between winter and spring fishing in open water. But anglers are impatient and enthusiastic people. And to wait by the sea is not in their habits. Therefore, everyone at this time finds his fishing.
So what types of fishing are available during the spring flood?
If we talk about large predatory fish, then on spills and hollows it is possible to catch pike on a live bait fishing rod, but only at this time it is not necessary to use bait fish. You can settle on a shore or an island in the midst of a water-flooded meadow and drop a fishing rod with a brush of worms on a hook. But it is desirable that the worms be local, that is, living in this particular meadow or field. Not acutely smelling “dung beetles” and bright red “leaves”, living more often in vegetable gardens under foliage and grassy turf, but ordinary inconspicuous earthworms. It’s good if there is some movement on the spill, and this usually happens. Although small, the current is even far from the river bed. In addition, when using a large float, which is usually used on live bait, it will be sure to be pulled by the spring wind. Therefore, a large “lobe” of actively moving worms will certainly attract a pike, although instances of a predator may not differ in large sizes. What is this fishing based on? After all, the pike is a predator. But many anglers have already noticed that in spring the pike often takes on a worm. And this is natural, since many fish, including pike, go to meadows filled with melt water to feed on worms crawling out of their minks, flooded with water. The caught pike is often full of worms, which are called gills. No need to stand in ambush, guarding a small fish, especially since the water is muddy. Fat worms crawl frantically on grassy shallows and clean patch of land right under the nose. Why not take a moment?
The float “live bait” is needed so that the tackle is still more powerful, equipped with a thin metal leash, better flexible, like a fishing line, from a leash material. In addition, if you catch on the river, it is better to put a hook with worms on the bottom and it will be pulled by the current. If the bottom is sandy or clay, then the bait will move in jerks, and the bite will be visible by the sharp disappearance of the float. You can not change the triple hook, but attach it to the tee, just like a tyulka on a pike perch, on each beard, one or two worms.
Here, on the river, you can use the so-called running donka
As such a donkey, a spinning rod equipped as a donka will go, but it is better to put a leash metal, in extreme cases, from a fluorocarbon fishing line with a diameter of not less than 0.3 mm. The equipment of the running donkey can look like this: above the sinker in 18-20 centimeters a long leash with a hook is tied. The leash can be 50-70 centimeters long. It is better to use a sinker like a “pear” weighing about 15-17 grams. In a strong current, the weight of the sinker may be more. Why is such a sinker needed? This is the most suitable form for pulling the sinker along the bottom. The technique for catching a floating donkey is simple. After casting the bait to the bottom, you just need to reel the fishing line. The sinker will move along the bottom, and the leash with worms flying along the course above the bottom. The movement of the bait will be active, which will attract a predator.
